SOMETIMES

Death comes.

A bullet tears through a soldier’s chest.

A mother screams to see her baby

While doctors try to stop the blood.

A child, no match for a speeding car.

Death doesn’t care.

A long long long night

Pain the only companion.

Looking into a loved one’s eyes

Seeing no hope.

Death doesn’t care.

Bloody cough and dark stool

A ceiling the only view.

Beeping noises of attached machines

The quiet sounds of life.

Death doesn’t care.

So I thought.

Sometimes, Death steps aside,

And sends an Angel of Mercy

To bring a soul home

Before its time.

So Death cares.

Sometimes.
